macabre…vintage…fusion…

Little Black Brooch is a vintage-fused, costume jewellery, greeting card and fabric design business, which is solely owned by myself, Vanessa Kellas. My dream is to bring back the traditional cameo brooch and the passion for wearing them by introducing a more modern, and sometimes macabre element to a very classic design.

Little Black Brooch offers a unique blend of hand-made, bespoke and limited edition jewellery, which brings a welcome change to the mass-produced trinkets that are saturating the market at the moment. I sell predominantly on-line and also through specialised boutique shops both locally and internationally, and also travel to hand-made fairs and makers markets.

LBB also introduces other ways of wearing the brooch by creating brooch rings and pendants, and also incorporating the classic design elements of the traditional cameo, and ornate frame surround, into greeting cards, and signature fabric designs which are used to make handbags, purses and our new homewares range of lampshades and cushions. LBB is also excited to announce our new range of circus and sideshow wall hangings and flags.

We only use Genuine Swarovski Crystals and source our vintage brass findings from across the globe. We strive to offer a wide range of bespoke collections and we are also proud to be collaborating with up and coming artists to feature their work as part of our limited collections.

I started Little Black Brooch from a love of a single costume brooch that my nana had given to me as a child, after I had admired it so much on her for many years. Its deep red and clear coloured crystals, in a circular surround, had me hooked on the ‘shiny’ from a very young age. That was my first ‘memento’ piece of jewellery. I now associate all brooches with my nana,
and so I hope I’m doing her proud.

Little Black Brooch took it's first breath in April 2010, in Norwich, in the United Kingdom, before spreading it's wings across the waters to the sub tropical shores of Northern New South Wales in Australia.

Reviving the art of the brooch and the passion for wearing them.

Our Bling…
We only use Genuine Austrian Swarovski Crystals on all our brooches, and the occasional vintage black glass stone, because we want our brooches to sparkle and shine! While the acrylic plastic gems do look good, (and are of course, cheaper), they cannot hold a candle to the real gems, of which the depth and sharpness of colour, are second to none.

Our Sizes…
All our sizes are detailed in each product description.

Our LBB…
All of our creations have a wonderful bespoke ‘LBB’ makers mark stamped on to a brass disc, so you know they come from us. We also usually include a little extra secret bling on our pieces for your eyes only! All of our brooches come in their own black gift box, while our hair slides and trinket brooches come in a black organza bag.

Brooch Aftercare
All our brooches have been tried and tested to stand up to general everyday wear and tear. But please, a little care and attention to your pieces will go a long way! As you would with any other piece of costume jewellery, be mindful not to subject it to water, and when cleaning, do not use any abrassive materials or heavy duty cleaner. Our brass pieces love a polish every so often, it lifts the whole piece! When not in use, they can be stored back in their little boxes or pouches. Gentle love is best love.
